Some couples you photograph once and remember forever — and every now and then, you get to know them long before they ever say "I do." We first met Dan and Lauren as guests at another wedding we shot, and it didn't take long to see it: the easy laugh, the way they looked out for everyone around them, the sense that whenever their turn came, it was going to be something special. So when they reached out to ask us to photograph and film their own wedding at Wildwood in Kangaroo Valley, it felt less like booking a job and more like getting invited back by friends.
And it was every bit as good as we hoped. Wildwood has a way of doing that — the property rolls out under the Kangaroo Valley escarpment, all timber and green and soft afternoon light, and it barely needs any help looking like a postcard. Dan and Lauren didn't need any help either. From the first look to the last dance, this was a day that ran on genuine warmth rather than nerves — the kind of wedding where the couple is so clearly, comfortably themselves that everyone around them relaxes into it too.
Not a single hitch. That's the phrase that kept coming up when we talk about this day — not because nothing could have gone wrong, but because Dan and Lauren met every moment with the same steadiness they clearly bring to each other. The ceremony was simple and moving, the kind where you catch half the guest list wiping their eyes without even trying to hide it. Kangaroo Valley did what it does best in the background: mist easing off the hills, that particular gold light easing through the trees as the afternoon wore on.
They hit it off without a hitch — the kind of couple who make you believe the day is going to go exactly as it should.
Golden hour at Wildwood is its own kind of gift, and we spent it exactly where it belongs — just the two of them, wandering the property while the light did the rest of the work. Then came the reception: string lights, long tables, speeches that had the whole room laughing one minute and reaching for tissues the next, and a dance floor that never really emptied. It's a rare thing to shoot a wedding where the couple's ease with each other is contagious, but that was Dan and Lauren's day from start to finish.
